At its upfront yesterday, MTV made some major announcements about its primetime schedule, which included orders for new series and renewals for existing series. Here are the details:

-The network has ordered a pilot for a televised adaptation of hit horror film franchise Scream. Working with the films’ producer, the Weinsteins’ Dimension Films and former top MTV execs Tony DiSanto and Liz Gateley’s DiGa Vision (which is behind MTV’s Teen Wolf and new reality series Ke$ha: My Crazy Beautiful Life), MTV first got hold of the project a year ago, under previous head of programming David Janollari. What’s surprising, and actually fairly risky, about this pilot green light is the fact that there is no writer, cast or even a specific concept for the adaptation as of yet. Regardless, MTV is putting all their weight behind the series, which is slated for a summer 2014 premiere. Wes Craven, the original director of the horror franchise, is in talks to direct the pilot.

-In addition, MTV has picked up three new unscripted series:

Generation Cryo explores “the issues faced by a new generation of kids coming of age who were conceived via anonymous sperm donors and are redefining what it means to be a family.” The series will follow a 17-year-old girl named Breeanna, whose search through the Donor Sibling Registry has led to her discovery of at least 15 half-siblings who, like her, have all been fathered by a man they don’t know. Bree’s journey to meet all of her half-brothers and sisters, and her subsequent mission to lead them on a search for their biological father, will be documented on the docu-drama.

Nurse Nation, meanwhile, follows nine twenty-something nurses assigned to work at a new hospital in a brand new city for 13 weeks. The series is said to document “the ultimate ‘work-hard/play-hard’ lifestyle.”

Then there’s The Hook-Up, a dating show in the vein of the network’s classic 90s series Singled Out, which launched the careers of Jenny McCarthy and Chris Hardwick. The series will be hosted by Andrew Schulz, star of MTV2?s hit reality series Guy Code.

-A new half-hour, comedic courtroom series has also been added to the slate. Guy Court, which is slated to premiere this fall, follows “the laws of manhood” which “will be upheld as some familiar MTV2 faces will determine the guilt or innocence of a variety of cases in accordance with Guy Code.”

-Mac Miller and the Most Dope Family, which was the highest rated original debut season in MTV2 history in its first year, will return for a second season following the young music superstar’s personal and professional life. The second season will begin production later this year for premiere in early 2014.

-Nick Cannon returns to MTV (well, MTV2) with the reimagined version of his improv comedy show Nick Cannon Presents Wild N Out. The series will premiere on MTV2 on July 9.

-Lastly, MTV announced that Snooki & JWOWW has been renewed for a third season.
